Almost everyone we’ve worked with has a scribbled list somewhere with all the home improvement projects they dream of, as time or money allows. We check those items off your list together.

We’re so excited when you bring your Pinterest boards, dog-eared magazines, phone screenshots, and random little ideas from your notes app into your project. That’s the starting place for the best ideas and most inspired home projects– one thoughtful detail at a time.

There’s nothing better than picking up the last dropcloth, spinning a fresh lightbulb into your new light fixture, and taking in the new space before you.

When all those details in a room work together, something shifts. You feel empowered. Your home feels (and looks) more like you. That out-of-the-box idea that was once relegated to a list is now your daily reality.

Here’s a little bit about us.

Hi, we’re Allie and Leah, sisters and third-generation painting contractors.

Home improvement, painting, and a touch of whimsy are in our family's blood. Our family is full of artisans, from painting and drawing to textiles and interior design. Through each generation, creative expression has been the thread that weaves us together.

Growing up, we had the freedom to explore individual taste through collections (tiny Victorian cat and dog figurines!), endless trips to flea markets for funky finds, restoring old furniture, and painting our rooms whatever bright colors we wanted. We drew cities in our driveway to ride through on our bikes, built Barbie mansions and Victorian house puzzles. We chose school projects on medieval architecture and wall painting. No matter what we did—sewing, beadwork, making our own Halloween costumes—we always had that creative streak.

From an early age, we were taught that your space should be a reflection of you, with every detail exactly as you want it to be. We can’t resist weaving this passion into every conversation. Seriously, don’t be surprised if we ask how you came across your alligator nutcracker or the history behind that quilt on your chair.

We’re obsessed with detail and excited to help you make your space exactly what you want. Our upbringing gave us that sense of ‘house pride’, that feeling of joy where you love where you live because you made it your own.

About Allie

I’ve always been a bit obsessed with all things home. Ever since I was little, I’ve been drawn to renovations, building techniques, design, and décor. I remember spending hours sketching floor plans and daydreaming.

After earning my bachelor’s degree, stepping into real estate was an easy decision. It combined everything I loved: creativity, connection, and the feeling of helping someone find their place in the world.

When stay-at-home orders brought us all indoors, I got back to my roots and remembered how important our homes truly are. It deepened my calling to help people create spaces that bring comfort, joy, and peace.

The idea for ‘The List’ popped into my head on a warm July evening on my screened porch…

I had long dreamed of working with my hands, helping others with the home improvement projects they’ve scribbled on a list but never quite get around to. It all came together when we made it a family business, incorporating Dad’s painting company of 14 years and bringing Leah on board. It was meant to be! Now, we offer full-service, highly detailed, and customizable painting services alongside small home improvement projects.
Currently in the middle of a hands-on remodel of our 1960s colonial-style home, I also love hosting themed parties, baking, and reading rom-coms.

About Leah

My path to The List is anything but linear. Ultimately, it was a homecoming– a serendipitous melding of all my experiences and strengths.

After earning a BA in Elementary Education and leading youth programs for 10 years, I fell into a facility and project management role overseeing a youth camp property during renovations. Seeing the construction process firsthand sparked my interest, so much so that I went back to school for an AA in Building Utilities, where I earned my Class 2A Boilers License, OSHA 10-Hour, registered unlicensed electrician, and universal refrigeration licenses.

I spent the next five years managing new construction and remodeling projects for Rochester Public Schools, where I loved the fast pace and complex projects. When my little sister Allie asked me to join The List…

I never looked back.
Allie has always been the lemon in my tea, the cream cheese on my bagel, the…you get it. We bring out the best in each other and love working together to bring out the best in your space, too. We love giving you permission to think about your environment differently and live by the belief that when you change your space, you change your life.
When I’m not at work, you can find me gardening, cooking (I’m the official deviled egg maker for every holiday), and hanging out with my daughter and rescue black lab.
